Adding a Windows XP computer to a Windows Server 2003 domain

Preface

These things should note before joining the domain

•    After joining the domain you will not able to use the “Fast User Switching” option. Until unless you reverting back or disjoin the domain.

•    Your current profile has to be change due to this your desktop and personal documents setting will appear with new one.

Method to join computer at domain

Step 1
Click on Start -> right click on “My Computer” -> click “Properties”

Go to the “Computer Name” tab and click on “Change” button.

Step 3
Select the “Domain” radio option button then write in your domain name like my domain is “Live” to join the computer to a domain. Then press OK button.

Step 4
Give username (who have domain administrator rights) and password, then Press “OK”.

After pressing the “OK” button, it will take one or two minutes to prompt domain welcome message. Then you need to restart your computer with the help of restart massage prompt, click on “Yes” option.
This is a way to learnt how to add a Windows XP computer to a Windows Server 2003 domain.

Step 5
After restart the XP computer press Control-Alt-Delete and give domain username and password and select your domain option from the drop-down box.

Now you can log on at domain with the help to use domain credentials.
